Vosne-Romanée

Vosne-Romanée is the village of the Côte de Nuits whose slope carries six grands crus, Romanée-Conti and La Tâche among them. Its village appellation and 14 premiers crus lie above and below those crus, on the communes of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Échezeaux, and make red wine only, from Pinot Noir.

The appellation covers 149.47 hectares, of which 56.01 in premier cru. The plots of the village appellation lie at the top of the slope or at its foot, on either side of the grand cru climats and sometimes at the same altitude, on limestone mixed with clayey marl, from a few tens of centimetres to a metre deep, facing east. The 14 premier cru climats include Les Suchots, Aux Malconsorts, Aux Brûlées, Les Beaux Monts, Cros Parantoux, Les Chaumes, Clos des Réas, Les Petits Monts, Les Rouges and Les Gaudichots.

Six grands crus lie on the commune of Vosne-Romanée: Romanée-Conti, La Romanée, La Tâche, La Grande Rue, Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg. Two more, Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux, lie on Flagey-Échezeaux. The Bourgogne wine board describes the village and premier cru wines as velvety and distinguished, moving from ripe fruit and spices to cherries in brandy, preserved fruit, leather and fur with age. Average production over 2017 to 2021 was 5,584 hectolitres a year, including 1,962 in premier cru.

Several estates with a page here are based in or around the village. Domaine Jean Grivot is in Vosne-Romanée itself and makes the premiers crus Aux Brûlées, Les Beaux Monts and Les Rouges. Domaine Emmanuel Rouget, at Flagey-Échezeaux, makes the premier cru Cros Parantoux from vines that came to him from his uncle Henri Jayer. Domaine Prieuré Roch owns the Clos Goillotte, a monopole in the village. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti takes its name from the grand cru at the centre of the slope.

The wines above gather the Vosne-Romanée village and premiers crus available here. See also Nuits-Saint-Georges, the grands crus of Burgundy or the full range of Burgundy wines.
