Fixin

Fixin is the second village appellation of the Côte de Nuits when coming from Dijon, after Marsannay and just north of Gevrey-Chambertin. Recognised in 1936, it makes mostly red wine from Pinot Noir, with a little white, and has six premiers crus.

The appellation covers the communes of Fixin and Brochon. Its six premier cru climats, among them the Clos de la Perrière, the Clos du Chapitre and the Clos Napoléon, sit on fairly uniform brown limestone soils, facing east to south-east, between 350 and 380 metres. The Bourgogne wine board calls the reds winter wines: firm when young, they need time in bottle before they show their fruit. A few plots are planted with Chardonnay for white. The village lies just north of Gevrey-Chambertin, whose grands crus start a few hundred metres down the road.

Fixin has no grand cru. Its six premiers crus lie above the village, and three of them carry the word clos, the mark of the walled plots of the Côte.

The wines above are the Fixin wines in the cellar. See also Marsannay, the other village of the northern Côte, Morey-Saint-Denis, our premier cru Burgundy or the full range of Burgundy wines.
