Puligny-Montrachet

Puligny-Montrachet is a village of the Côte de Beaune whose name stands for white Burgundy. Almost all of its 205 hectares are planted with Chardonnay, and 17 premiers crus climb the slope just below the Montrachet grands crus.

The village appellation dates from 31 July 1937. In 2022 it covered 204.72 hectares of white, of which 95.83 in premier cru, and less than half a hectare of red. The 17 premiers crus include Les Pucelles, Les Folatières, Les Combettes, Le Cailleret, Champ Canet, Les Perrières and Les Referts. Above them lie the grands crus of the commune: Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, a few metres from the premier cru vines.

The vineyards sit between 230 and 320 metres, facing east and south-east, on brown limestone soils or on limestone alternating with marl and clay. The Bourgogne wine board describes the white as bright gold with green highlights, with hawthorn, marzipan, hazelnut and a mineral note, combining grace with concentration, and the colour grows more intense with age.

The estates of the village share the slope with neighbours from Chassagne and Meursault. Domaine Ramonet, based across the boundary in Chassagne-Montrachet, makes a Puligny-Montrachet premier cru Champ Canet and a village Puligny from the lieu-dit Les Nosroyes.

The wines above show the Puligny-Montrachet available here. See also Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, our premier cru Burgundy or all white wines.
