The Naudin family has farmed at Magny-lès-Villers, in the hills above the Côte de Nuits, since 1500. Claire Naudin, the youngest of Henri Naudin-Ferrand's three daughters, took charge of the domaine in 1994 and became its sole owner in 1999, after studying oenology and agronomy and working harvests in Australia and New Zealand.

The estate covers about 22 hectares. Most of it lies in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, with parcels lower on the slope at Ladoix, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Flagey-Échezeaux, which give the domaine its Échezeaux grand cru. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté are the grapes.

Claire Naudin's method is what sets the wines apart. Several cuvées are fermented with whole bunches and without added sulphur; sulphur is added only at bottling, and in small amounts. Harvest is about ninety percent by hand, fermentations run on natural yeasts, and the wines are not filtered systematically. The domaine has deliberately not sought organic certification, to keep the freedom to intervene when a vintage demands it.

The result is perfumed, fresh Burgundy at village and regional level. Some bottles carry the Claire Naudin label; they come from the same cellar. Browse the wines above, or see the wider selection of Burgundy wines.
