Philippe Foreau is the third generation of his family to run Domaine du Clos Naudin. His grandfather bought the property in 1923, and Philippe took over from his father André in 1983. The vineyard covers 11.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc in the northeast corner of Vouvray, on mid-hill parcels facing south, southeast and southwest. The main plots are called Les Perruches and Les Ruettes, and the vines average about 45 years of age.

The vineyard is farmed with organic methods, without herbicides and with organic fertilizers. Harvest is done by hand, with several passes through the rows to select only ripe grapes. The grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press and fermented in barrels of 300 liters, renewed at about 5 percent each year. Malolactic fermentation never takes place, and fermentation itself proceeds slowly in the cellar over about two months. The wines are racked twice before bottling in mid-May of the year after harvest. Philippe Foreau never chaptalizes his wines, and demi-sec and moelleux styles are only made in years when the grapes reach natural ripeness on their own. The sparkling Vouvray rests on its lees for at least 48 months and is disgorged once each quarter, and in the best vintages a vintage-dated reserve bottling is made.

Dynamic Cellars carries three Vouvrays from Domaine du Clos Naudin: the Brut 2013, the Dry 2019 and the Extra Brut 2019. Explore more Loire Valley wines, white wines, organic wines and mature wines in our range.
