La Maison Romane was founded by Oronce de Beler, who left Paris in 2004 drawn to Burgundy's Pinot Noir and bought his first grapes for the 2005 vintage. The house was based in Vosne-Romanée until 2017, when it moved to a vaulted cellar in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

As a négociant-éleveur, La Maison Romane buys grapes from partner growers across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte Chalonnaise, on clay-limestone soils, and vinifies red wines from Pinot Noir and white wines from Chardonnay. Reds are fermented with 100 percent whole clusters and minimal intervention. The wines age twelve months in old oak barrels, with no added sulfur or only very low doses, and are bottled by hand without fining or filtration, then sealed with wax.
