Stéphane Ogier joined his father at the head of the family domaine in Ampuis in 1997, at the age of twenty. The family had grown vines in the area for generations, in a landscape of mixed farming typical of the northern Rhône, where fruit trees were once more profitable than vineyards. He trained alongside his father in the traditional way and studied viticulture and oenology in Beaune, then worked in Burgundy and South Africa. His father Michel had already changed the estate once, deciding in 1983 to bottle the wine himself rather than sell the grapes. Stéphane Ogier added to this by buying vineyard land on well placed sites, when land prices in Côte-Rôtie were still within reach.

The estate's holdings in Côte-Rôtie grew to 14 hectares, across a mix of parcels that includes sites on both the Côte Blonde and the Côte Brune. From 2007, Stéphane Ogier began planting and buying vines in Condrieu, where the domaine farmed 5 hectares by 2023, and added vineyards in Saint-Joseph, in the Collines Rhodaniennes, and in the southern Côtes du Rhône around Cairanne and Plan-de-Dieu. Each parcel is vinified separately, and blends are set each year according to the vintage. In 2014 the domaine moved into new winemaking facilities facing the Côte-Rôtie hillside, replacing the village cellar used by his parents. The estate's Côte Blonde and Côte Brune cuvées, Lancement and La Belle Hélène, are aged 24 to 36 months before release.
