The property was established by Marcel Michel in 1966, before which the family's grapes had been sold in bulk to négociants. Lucien Michel and his wife Marie-Josée took charge of the vineyard in 1979 and began estate bottling and exporting most of the production. Their daughter Claire Michel and her brother François later joined the family business, continuing its day-to-day management.

The vineyard is planted mostly to old vine Grenache, and more than a third of the vines are over a hundred years old. The red wine is roughly 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault; the Mourvèdre is fermented separately, and all the lots are vinified in traditional square concrete vats. The finished red then ages for about eighteen months, most of it in large oak foudres with the remainder in concrete tanks. The small production of white is built mainly on Roussanne and Clairette.
