The domaine joins two families of the Côte: the Rossignols of Volnay and the Trapets of Gevrey-Chambertin, whose vines had been in the family for generations. When Domaine Trapet was divided in 1990, one half became Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, run by Nicolas and David Rossignol since. They began converting to biodynamics in 1997, the whole estate by 2004, and have been certified since the 2008 vintage.

The domaine covers thirteen hectares, almost all in Gevrey-Chambertin, with plots in Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune. It makes red wine only. At the top stand three grands crus, Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin; below them five Gevrey premiers crus, Clos Prieur, Petite Chapelle, Cherbaudes, Les Corbeaux and Aux Combottes, then village Gevrey-Chambertin, including the lieu-dit Aux Ételois, and regional Bourgogne. Harvest is by hand, the grapes are partly or wholly destemmed according to the year, and the wines age in oak with a share of new barrels that rises with the rank of the cru.
