The Lignier family has grown vines in Morey-Saint-Denis for three generations. Virgile Lignier joined his father Maurice at the domaine in 1998 and took charge of the winemaking in 2000; his wife Laure works alongside him, and the estate trades under the name Domaine Virgile Lignier-Michelot.

The vineyard covers about 12 hectares split into some 60 parcels, with holdings in the grands crus Clos de la Roche and Clos Saint-Denis, several premiers crus, and village and Bourgogne appellations across five communes. The vines are farmed along organic lines, without certification, and the soils are worked with care for biodiversity. In the cellar, Virgile favors whole-cluster fermentation, from a partial share up to the full bunch depending on the vineyard and the vintage, using native yeasts after a short cold maceration. The wines age 10 to 13 months in barrel, with new oak kept to no more than 30 percent, then are blended in stainless steel tank for a further four months before bottling.
