The domaine traces back to a family vineyard worked by Henri Boillot's grandfather, and Henri himself joined the business in 1975. In the 1990s he also set up a separate merchant house, Maison Henri Boillot, to extend the range beyond the family's own parcels. In 2005 Henri bought out his brother's and sister's shares in the family domaine and renamed it after himself. His son Guillaume Boillot took charge of red winemaking in 2012, while Henri has continued to focus on the whites.

The domaine's vineyard holdings run across several communes of the Côte de Beaune, with premier cru parcels in Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard, along with the monopole Clos de la Mouchère in Puligny-Montrachet. Farming follows organic methods without chemical treatments. The white wines are whole-bunch pressed without bâtonnage and aged in 350-litre oak barrels, larger than the Burgundy standard, while the reds are vinified from a mix of whole-bunch and destemmed fruit and aged with a significant share of new oak.
