Alphonse Gros and his wife Julie were the first of the family to make Vosne-Romanée, from 1830; their son Louis-Gustave was among the first growers of the Côte de Nuits to bottle his wine for private customers. At the succession of Louis Gros in 1963, two of his four children, Colette and Gustave, joined their shares to create the domaine. Their nephew Bernard came in 1980 and, after Gustave died in 1984, ran the estate with Colette, replanting much of the vineyard over thirty years before handing over to his children in 2010.

The domaine works 23 hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a large share in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits. The grapes are picked by hand and destemmed, macerate cold before a slow fermentation, and the wines age eighteen months: twelve in barrels of fine-grained Burgundian oak, then six in steel tank on the fine lees.

The range here is Vosne-Romanée Clos de la Fontaine and premier cru Les Chaumes, and the grands crus Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot and Échezeaux.
