Gideon Beinstock and Saron Rice bought the property in Oregon House, in Yuba County, in 1998. A half acre of Pinot Noir vines already stood on the land, planted in 1979 and 1980. In 1999 they founded Clos Saron and planted two more acres of Pinot Noir around that old block, later adding a further half acre on a parcel they call Suzy's Block. A one acre vineyard on Texas Hill Road, planted in the late 1990s about two miles east of the Home Vineyard, gave three vintages, in 2005, 2006 and 2011.

The Home Vineyard faces north east at 1,530 to 1,600 feet, on clay loam topsoil over decomposed volcanic rock with quartz, part of the Smartville Complex rather than the granite common in the Sierra Foothills. The vines are own rooted, about a dozen clones, planted densely at three by six feet. The vineyard is farmed without chemicals; sheep, geese, ducks and chickens graze it and provide fertilization, along with organic compost. Since 2011, Beinstock has bottled limited site specific wines from individual blocks, including the Old Block, the Lower Block and Suzy's Block, each kept separate to show its own character.
