Pierre Taittinger founded the house in 1932 when he bought Maison Forest-Fourneaux. His son François created the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs in 1952 and in 1955 bought 110 hectares of vines. In 2005 the family sold the Taittinger group to Starwood Capital; in 2006 Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, with the support of his father Jean and of the Crédit Agricole, bought back the Champagne house. Vitalie Taittinger has been its president since January 2020.

The house owns 288 hectares in the Côte des Blancs, the Marne Valley, the Montagne de Reims and the Aube, about half of what it needs, and buys the rest from partner growers. Its wines age in the chalk cellars under the former abbey of Saint-Nicaise in Reims, dug in Gallo-Roman times and in the Middle Ages, and listed by UNESCO with the hillsides, houses and cellars of Champagne.

Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs is Chardonnay from grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, made only in the best years, 42 vintages since 1952, and aged about ten years in those cellars. The Rosé, created in the 1970s, blends Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, part of it vinified as red wine at Bouzy, with grand cru Chardonnay, and ages about twelve years.
