Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose Adélaide Jouët founded the house in Épernay in 1811, shortly after their marriage in September 1810. Adèle Jouët managed the vineyards and winemaking while Pierre-Nicolas handled sales. The house began exporting to the United Kingdom in 1815 and to the United States in 1837, and from 1861 it supplied the English royal court, including Queen Victoria. Charles Perrier ran the house from the 1850s until his death in 1878, when his nephews Henri and Octave Gallice took over.

In 1902, Octave Gallice had Art Nouveau designer Émile Gallé decorate four magnums with a Japanese anemone motif. That design became the emblem of Belle Époque, the cuvée created in 1964 and launched in 1969. Perrier-Jouët farms vineyards around Épernay and the Côte des Blancs, with about 65 hectares owned directly, more than half of it in the Grand Cru villages of Cramant and Avize, planted mainly to Chardonnay. G.H. Mumm acquired the house in 1959, and Pernod Ricard has owned it since 2005.
