Champagne Egly-Ouriet

Egly-Ouriet is a grower estate in Ambonnay, a grand cru village of the Montagne de Reims, run by Francis Egly since 1980, the fourth generation of the family. Its Champagnes are built on old Pinot Noir vines and long ageing on the lees.

Francis Egly took over the family vines in 1980, the fourth generation to work them. The old vines of Ambonnay are worked with organic methods, ploughed and cropped low.

In the cellar only the first pressing, the cuvée, is kept. Most wines spend at least 48 months on their lees before release, and some more than 100, far beyond the 15 months the appellation asks of a non-vintage Champagne and the three years it asks of a vintage. Pinot Noir leads the blends. William Kelley of the Wine Advocate has described Francis Egly as one of the most precise and meticulous winemakers in Champagne, from vineyard to cellar.

The range here runs from the Brut and Extra Brut Grand Cru to the vintage wine, Les Prémices and the V.P., Vieillissement Prolongé, which spends extra years on its lees.
