Premier Cru Burgundy

This page gathers every Burgundy sold under a premier cru climat, the second rank of the region's hierarchy, between the village wines and the grands crus. More than 600 climats hold the rank, spread across the villages of the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise, Chablis and, since the 2020 vintage, Pouilly-Fuissé in the Mâconnais.

Burgundy classifies the land, not the estate. The pyramid has four levels: regional appellations, village appellations, the premiers crus, and 33 grands crus at the top. A premier cru is a named plot, a climat, within a village appellation, judged over time to give better wine than the village around it; the label carries the village, the words premier cru and usually the name of the climat, such as Nuits-Saint-Georges premier cru Les Saint-Georges. The premiers crus cover roughly a tenth of the vineyard, and the grands crus about one percent of production.

The page follows the classification on each wine's label. It runs the length of the region: in the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges; in the Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet; and in the north, Chablis premier cru.

Several estates with a page here are known first for their premiers crus: Domaine Michel Lafarge for Volnay Clos des Chênes and Caillerets, Domaine Jean Grivot for Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts and Aux Brûlées, Domaine Emmanuel Rouget for Cros Parantoux, Domaine François Raveneau for Montée de Tonnerre.

The wines above are every premier cru Burgundy in the cellar. For the top of the pyramid, see the grand cru Burgundy; for the whole region, the Burgundy wines.
