A single granite hill above Tain, farmed since Roman times and named among the great wines of France long before Bordeaux was classified. Syrah covers the slope, with Marsanne and Roussanne on its western flank.

Red Hermitage is the most structured wine of the northern Rhône and needs a decade before it unfolds. The whites are rarer and age on a similar scale. For the same Syrah at an earlier drinking window, see Saint-Joseph.
