Domaine Jules Desjourneys

Domaine Jules Desjourneys is based in La Chapelle de Guinchay, on the border between the Beaujolais and the Mâconnais. It was founded in 2007 by Fabien Duperray, a Burgundy wine merchant, and takes its first name from Jules Chauvet, the Beaujolais winemaker known for his research on fermentation.

Fabien Duperray spent more than two decades as a Burgundy wine merchant, handling allocations for domaines such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Coche-Dury, and working with growers including Arnaud Ente in Meursault and Jean-Yves Bizot in Vosne-Romanée. In 2007 he bought old vines in Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent and began making his own wine. He named the estate after Jules Chauvet and added Desjourneys to keep his own name off the label, as he was still working as a merchant for other domaines.

The reds come from the Beaujolais crus. They see no pigeage, only gentle pumping over, and age two to three years before bottling, mostly in concrete and glass since barrels were phased out from 2014. Sulphur is added sparingly, usually only in the wine's second year. Also from 2014, Duperray has made white wines in the Mâconnais with the winemaker Christophe Thibert, including Mâcon-Verzé, Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Vinzelles.
