Jean-François Ganevat, Jura winemaker, among his dormant vines, framed with Dynamic Cellars wave design

Domaine Jean-François Ganevat

Domaine Ganevat is a family estate in the hamlet of La Combe at Rotalier, in the south of the Jura, where the family has grown vines for fourteen generations. Jean-François Ganevat took it over in 1998, after years as cellar master in Chassagne-Montrachet, and built a range of more than fifty single-parcel cuvées. His sister Anne later joined him at the domaine.

Jean-François Ganevat learned his trade in Burgundy, as cellar master for Jean-Marc Morey at Chassagne-Montrachet, before coming home to Rotalier in 1998 to run the family domaine, joined later by his sister Anne. The estate covers thirteen hectares of Côtes du Jura, in white and red, converted to biodynamics in 2006. The vineyard holds some 25 grape varieties, the classic Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir alongside old local grapes such as Enfariné, Petit Béclan and Gueuche that had almost disappeared from the region.

The method is parcel by parcel: one soil, one grape, one cuvée, which gives more than fifty wines a year, from the Chardonnay of Les Chalasses and the Savagnin of Les Vignes de mon Père to reds from Trousseau and Poulsard. In the cellar the wines ferment on their own yeasts, without additives, with little or no sulphur, fining or filtration. To these the family adds a négoce range made from grapes bought from growers they trust, in the Jura, Alsace, Savoie and Beaujolais, bottled under the Anne et Jean-François Ganevat name.

The wines above are the Ganevat wines in our cellar. See also our Jura wines, natural wines or biodynamic wines.
