Kenji Hodgson set out to become a wine writer and took an internship in Japan, where he met a winemaker who championed natural winemaking. The encounter turned into a passion for French natural wines. Back in Canada, Kenji met Mai in Vancouver, and the two shared the same enthusiasm. They first planned to buy vineyard land in Canada, but winemaker Mark Angeli, who mentored them, suggested they look in Anjou, France instead.

Mai and Kenji Hodgson farm about 4 hectares of vines in Rablay-sur-Layon, on soils of shale and schist. They work with Grolleau, a red grape traditional to Anjou, and with Chenin Blanc. Their aim is wine with structure, elegance and power, while keeping energy and fruit at the center, and they make their cuvées in small volumes.

Dynamic Cellars carries three cuvées from Mai and Kenji Hodgson: the LNDM 2023, Les Aussigouins Vin de France 2023 and Mont Jeunes Vignes 2023. Explore more Loire Valley wines, natural wines and recent vintages in our range.
