Domaine Tempier

Domaine Tempier is based in Le Castellet, in the Bandol appellation of Provence. The Tempier family has owned the property since 1834, and Lucien and Lucie Peyraud settled there in 1940. The estate was among the growers who secured Bandol's AOC status in 1941.

The Tempier family has held the property in Le Castellet since 1834, when the current bastide was built. Lucien Peyraud and his wife, Lucie, settled at the estate in 1940. Lucien Peyraud and other local growers pushed for Bandol to become a recognized appellation, which happened in 1941. He served as president of the Bandol winegrowers' union from 1945 to 1982. The domaine released its first bottled rosé in 1943, followed by its first red Bandol vintage in 1951.

In the 1960s, the couple's sons, Jean-Marie and François Peyraud, began vinifying the estate's three main vineyard sites separately: La Tourtine, La Migoua and Cabassaou. A new cellar built around wooden foudres was completed in 1968. Mourvèdre, a variety Lucien Peyraud championed for Bandol, anchors the red and rosé wines. The vineyard is farmed biodynamically. Daniel Ravier became director general in 2000.
