The Sérol family's roots in Renaison go back to 1700. Robert Sérol began selling the domaine's wine in bottle in 1971 and worked for the recognition of the Côte Roannaise, which became an AOC in 1994. His son Stéphane took over the estate in 1996 and was later joined by his wife Carine. The Troisgros family of Roanne have bought the domaine's wine since 1978 and share one of its plots, Les Blondins.

Domaine Sérol farms 38 hectares on granite hillsides between 400 and 550 metres, planted mostly to Gamay Saint-Romain, a local form of Gamay, with some Viognier and Chenin. The vines are planted densely, at 8,500 to 10,000 per hectare. The farming was certified organic by Ecocert in 2014 and biodynamic by Biodyvin in 2016. The grapes are picked by hand and sorted, and the reds ferment on their own yeasts in concrete, wood or amphora, according to the plot.
