The domaine traces back to 1935, when Maurice Maratray's father chose to put his earnings into vineyards rather than his public works business. Maurice later married a daughter of Pierre Dubreuil, from Pernand-Vergelesses, adding further vines to the family's holdings. When Maurice retired in 1997, the estate was renamed from Domaine Maurice Maratray to Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil, taking the mother's maiden name, and passed to his children, François-Xavier and Marie-Madeleine Maratray.

The domaine farms nineteen hectares across six communes of the Côte de Beaune: Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Chorey-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune, with grand cru parcels on the Corton hill, including Corton-Bressandes and Corton-Charlemagne. The estate follows lutte raisonnée, an integrated approach that limits treatments to what the vines need, and harvests every plot by hand. The wines age 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, with about 30 percent new wood.
