Domaine Le Sang des Cailloux

Domaine Le Sang des Cailloux is a 17-hectare estate on the garrigue plateau of Vacqueyras, facing the Dentelles de Montmirail. Serge Férigoule bought the domaine in 1990 and moved it away from chemical farming; his son Frédéri joined in 2003, and the estate has been certified organic since 2007 and biodynamic since 2010.

The domaine was founded in 1975 and took its present shape when Serge Férigoule, hired there as a vineyard worker in the 1980s, bought the property in 1990 with a plan to farm without chemical inputs. His son Frédéri joined the family business in 2003, and Frédéri runs the domaine with his wife Marion.

The estate lies between Vacqueyras and Sarrians, on a garrigue plateau facing the Dentelles de Montmirail, and its 17 hectares, 15 planted to red grapes and 2 to white, have been farmed organically since 2007 and biodynamically since 2010. Grenache and Syrah lead the plantings, with smaller amounts of Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan and Counoise. The clay and limestone soils are covered with stones, which gave the domaine its name, and most vines are trained in the traditional gobelet, bush-vine style. Harvest starts among the earliest in the appellation, to keep freshness in the grapes.
