Henri Gouges started the estate in 1919 and bought its best plots over the following years: Les Saint-Georges in 1924, Les Vaucrains in 1932 and the Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges in 1933, a 3.6 hectare premier cru that the family owns alone. His sons Michel and Marcel joined him around 1940, followed by Christian and Pierre, then by Grégory in 2003 and Antoine in 2011.

The estate covers 14 to 15 hectares, all in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Besides the plots named above it holds Les Pruliers, Les Chaignots, bought in 1965, and Les Chênes Carteaux. In 1930 the family found in its vines a Pinot Noir that gives white grapes, since known as Pinot Gouges.

The grapes are picked by hand and moved by gravity. Extraction is gentle, closer to an infusion, and the wines age 10 to 18 months with a modest share of new oak.
