Domaine Gramenon was founded in 1979 in Montbrison-sur-Lez, in the southern Rhône valley, by Philippe Laurent and Michèle Aubéry. The couple started with 12 hectares of vines and expanded the estate to 26 hectares over the following years. Philippe Laurent died in 1999, and Michèle Aubéry-Laurent has run the domaine since, joined by her son, Maxime-François Laurent.

The vineyard sits on elevated ground with limestone soils, a combination the domaine credits for the freshness of its wines. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Viognier and Clairette are planted across the estate. Working from the idea that good wine starts with good grapes, the family farms its certified biodynamic vines with controlled yields and regular soil work. Some cuvées are made to be approachable young, on the fruit, while others are built to reward a few years in the cellar before opening.
