The domaine traces back to 1924, when Georges Roumier, who came from the Charolais, married Geneviève Quanquin and received vineyard land in Chambolle-Musigny as a dowry. Georges also worked as vineyard manager for the Comte Georges de Vogüé. Succession moved to his son Jean-Marie during the 1950s, though Georges did not retire fully until 1961; his eldest son Alain took over the role at de Vogüé instead. Christophe Roumier, Jean-Marie's son, began working alongside his father in 1981 and took full control of the domaine in 1990.

The estate grew through the twentieth century. Jean-Marie purchased a plot of Musigny, held until then under a métayage agreement, in 1978. Two parcels of Clos de Vougeot were added in 1952 and the Morey-Saint-Denis monopole Clos de la Bussière in 1953. A plot in Pernand-Vergelesses later classed as Corton-Charlemagne was bought in 1968 and first harvested in 1974. In 1977 the domaine acquired a share of the grand cru Ruchottes-Chambertin, and in 1984 it took on a small parcel of Mazoyères-Chambertin under métayage. In the cellar, grapes are generally destemmed, with a cold soak before fermentation in stainless steel and concrete open-top tanks, without added cultivated yeasts, and ageing uses around a third new oak.
