Domaine Drouhin Laroze traces its origins to 1850, when Jean-Baptiste Laroze established a vineyard holding in Gevrey-Chambertin. The property passed to his son Félix Laroze, then to Félix's daughter Suzanne Laroze. In 1919, Suzanne married Alexandre Drouhin, a grower based in Chambolle-Musigny, and the two family holdings combined to form Domaine Drouhin Laroze. Philippe and Christine Drouhin have run the estate together with their children Caroline and Nicolas, who represent the sixth generation since the domaine's founding.

The estate covers 11.5 hectares split between Grand Cru, Premier Cru and village appellations in the Côte de Nuits. Grand Cru plots make up about 46 percent of the vineyard and include Musigny, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Clos de Vougeot, Bonnes Mares, Latricières-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin. Premier Cru holdings, around 14 percent, lie in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the climats Lavaut Saint-Jacques, Au Closeau, Craipillot and Clos Prieur. The remaining vines produce village wines from Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis. Farming follows a reasoned approach with manual work in the vines, including deleafing, green harvest and hand picking, and grapes are sorted before entering the cellar. The wines age about 18 months in vaulted cellars built in 1815, with new oak used in proportions of 80 percent for Grand Cru, 50 percent for Premier Cru and 20 percent for village wines, and are bottled without fining or filtration.
