David Léclapart is the fourth generation of his family to farm vines in Trépail, a premier cru village on the Montagne de Reims. He took charge of the estate after his father's death in 1996, and put out his first vintage under his own name in 1998. He began the shift to organic farming that year and reached Ecocert and Demeter certification in 2000, among the earlier growers in Champagne to do so.

The estate covers three hectares split across some twenty parcels of chalky marl, planted mostly to Chardonnay, the grape that dominates Trépail, with some Pinot Noir. Fermentation takes place in tank, in barrel, or in both depending on the cuvée, and the wines rest on their lees for two to four years before release. None of the champagnes carries a dosage, and each cuvée comes from a single vintage, often from a single vineyard. Annual production runs to around fifteen thousand bottles.

At Dynamic Cellars, our David Léclapart selection includes L'Aphrodisiaque Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru 2017 and L'Aphrodisiaque Pas Dosé 1er Cru 2018. See more in Champagne, Premier Cru Champagne, Grower Champagne and Biodynamic Wines.
