The monks of the abbey of Cluny planted the Clos in 910. Pierre and Jeanne Guillot bought it in 1952 and farmed it organically from 1954, and no chemical product has been used since. When Julien Guillot joined the domaine in 1998, it moved to biodynamics.
The wines ferment on native yeasts, with no enzymes or additives and little or no sulphur or filtration. The whites are pressed directly; the reds go through a semi-carbonic maceration. The family looks for texture and mouthfeel, and for finishes that reflect the geology of each plot; two of the Mâcon-Cruzille whites are named after minerals, Aragonite and Manganite.
The domaine is based in the village of Cruzille. The range here includes the Mâcon-Cruzille whites Aragonite, Manganite and Les Chassagnes, the red Mâcon Cuvée 910, the Bourgogne Cuvée Auguste, a Pouilly-Fuissé and, from Beaujolais, a Chénas.
