Château Rollan de By

Château Rollan de By lies at Bégadan, in the northern Médoc, on the estate that Jean Guyon began building in 1989. He started with two hectares of vines and grew the property over the following decades into an 87-hectare vineyard on clay and gravel soils. The wine is sold under the Médoc appellation.

Jean Guyon bought his first two hectares of vines at Bégadan in 1989, a modest start that he built up over the following years into Domaines Rollan de By. Six years after the first purchase he acquired a second property, Château Haut Condissas, and went on to add Château Tour Seran in 2000, Château La Clare in 2001 and Château La Rose de By in 2011. In 2012 he bought Château Greysac, Château de By and Château du Monthil, bringing the group's combined vineyards to 185 hectares.

Château Rollan de By itself covers 87 hectares of clay and gravel soil in the northern Médoc. The vineyard is planted to 70 percent Merlot, with 10 percent each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and the wine is sold under the Médoc appellation. Jean Guyon, the son of an antiques dealer, has also placed sculptures and paintings by contemporary artists across the estate's grounds.
