Champagne Feneuil Émilien

Champagne Émilien Feneuil is a small grower estate in the Montagne de Reims, farmed across the villages of Sermiers, Chamery and Ecueil. Émilien Feneuil returned to his family's vineyards in 2006 and released his own first estate-bottled Champagne from the 2015 harvest.

The Feneuil family sold its grapes, alongside other produce, before Émilien Feneuil returned to the property in 2006. He trained at the wine school in Avize and farmed conventionally at first, following the practices he had been taught. In 2008 he attended a meeting on organic farming and began converting his vineyards, later studying biodynamic methods, geobiology and agroforestry. He kept selling part of his fruit, including to fellow grower Aurélien Laherte, until 2014, before pressing his own first vintage in 2015 with the help of neighbouring vignerons.

Émilien Feneuil farms seventeen small plots totalling around two and a half hectares, split between Sermiers, Chamery and Ecueil, on soils of sand, marl, clay and chalk. Trees such as willow, oak, hazel and cherry grow among the vines without having been planted, a form of agroforestry. His plantings are mostly Pinot Meunier, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and a small share of the rare grape Petit Meslier. In the cellar, fermentation is spontaneous, sulfur additions are kept to a minimum, and the 2015 wines were aged in used Burgundy barrels before being disgorged without dosage in the autumn of 2019.

At Dynamic Cellars, the Feneuil range includes the Blanc de Blancs blend Cuvée Mix, the plot bottlings Les Puits and Totum, the rosé de macération Les Goulats, and Les Ruisseaux. These are Champagne wines from an independent grower Champagne estate, including several Premier Cru Champagne cuvées among our natural wines.
